Classical, Opera, Jazz Performances - And A Whole Lot More!

Festival Title Sponsors, MBNA together with The Carrick Water Festival Committee and Artistic Director Gwendolyn Masin are proud to present the 5th Annual Carrick Water Festival, from Tuesday 4th of August to Sunday 9th of August 2009.

Since its inception in 2005, the Festival has brought a range of musical talent to Carrick-on-Shannon, the intention of which is to reinforce the image of the Northwest as a desirable place to live, work and visit. 

Once again in 2009, we look forward to welcoming all our festival visitors so, whether you are a local resident, an Irish visitor on holiday in the North West region or an international visitor, we hope that you will enjoy your time with us here in Carrick on Shannon and that the quality and range of music on offer will appeal to all.

In 2009, we have once again secured the highest calibre of artists from a range of different musical genres, including jazz, classical, folk, Irish traditional, baroque and opera. We will also have a number of other events, including drum and song workshops for kids and adults alike, theatre provided by the renowned Breffni Players, book and poetry reading sessions....in short, something for everybody!

This, the 5th annual festival, will also mark the 250th Anniversary of one of the world's most famous composers, Handel. With this in mind,
a special evening of Opera will take place, with the performance of his brilliant and world renowned Opera "Xerxes". This Operatic performance comes with a twist, as the performance will take the form of a combination of part-narration and part-performance, so it promises to be a truly memorable performance.

So, with lots to look forward to, we hope you and your friends and families will join us in August for what promises to be a spectacular festival, a wonderful 6 days and a valuable addition to the Carrick-on-Shannon calendar of events for 2009!
